LOCATION

Surrounded by some of the world’s highest sand dunes the Liwa Oasis is a large breathtaking oasis area in Abu Dhabi. Not many tourists have visited this oasis yet which is located about 100 km south of the Persian Gulf coast and 150 km SSW of the city of Abu Dhabi, on the northern edge of Rub al Khali desert and stretching about 100 km east-west, along an arch curved to the north. It consists of some 50 villages.

Even the rally circus stops here once a year: every October the UAE Desert Challenge – part of the Marathon World Cup – sets up their bivouac at Liwa for a week.

This is the place to go, if you want to see the “real” desert.
